Murray: Airdrie haven’t started

-

MARK PIRIE Airdrie boss Ian Murray says the one positive he can take from defeat to Montrose is that the Diamonds sit just six points off the top of League One.

Callum Smith’s early strike put the hosts in front, before a Blair Lyons double and Graham Webster’s strike won it for the Gable Endies.

Murray says they will look into how they can help the squad at the Penny Cars Stadium – including cutting the size of the pitch.

Despite more dropped points at New Broomfield, he says that the fact nobody is running away with the title is a boost to his side.

He told the Advertiser:“There wasn’t much in the game, but I’ve said that for the past few weeks.

“We didn’t play well enough to merit the game and there isn’t any way of getting away from it, our home form has been poor.

“On the other hand, our away form has been really good. We are in a bit of a strange conundrum but that’s for us to work out.

“We are still only six points off the lead, and that’s a huge boost to us.

“I said to the players‘we haven’t even got started yet this season, and we are still six points off the top’.

“It’s not where we want to be at all and we need to sort things as quickly as we can. Once we get going I still believe we can challenge at the top of the table.”

Murray admits they have faced injury problems, but still expects more from the players when they wear the Diamond.

He went on:“We were missing Ally Roy and David Hutton at the weekend, but we should have them both back for Forfar. We’ve had the likes of Craig Thomson out as well and asked players to adapt to different positions.

“I still expect the best from them that they can offer and if they are called upon again they have to give everything.”

With their good form away from home, the gaffer is confident of getting back to winning ways this weekend: “We go into every game confident that we can win the game.

“We are a wounded animal, but so are Forfar. We will have to be at our best.”
