Broomfield boost is a must insists Cameron

as the underdog, but manager Alex Morrison says the former three-weight world champion is confident.

“He is looking great in training and is at a good weight,” he told the Advertiser.

“He’s very confident going in that he will be able to win. He’s raring to go, he can’t wait to get out in the ring again.

“Lee Selby is the bookies favourite, so I guess it would be a bit of an upset if he did win.

“Ricky doesn’t see it that way at all and thinks this is a great chance to get back among the real big money again.

“He wants to get a few more worthwhile fights before he finishes up. He is still wanting to have a go at America but isn’t wanting to look too far ahead, but there is that ambition to go to the States.” MARK PIRIE

New Airdrieonians assistant manager Colin Cameron says the Diamonds must start winning at home if they want to get the fans behind them.

The furious Penny Cars Stadium faithful booed off Ian Murray’s side after defeat to Montrose – their fifth League One game at New Broomfield without a win.

Cameron, who made his dugout debut alongside Murray for the clash with the Gable Endies, told the Advertiser they have the squad to challenge at the top but need to turn around their home form.

“It’s key that you go on a run,” he said. “At home this season we are not picking up enough points.

“I think it’s important to make sure that we don’t get beat at home and build from there.”

The new assistant manager continued: “It’s important to recognise that we haven’t been at our best at home and we are still challenging for the top four.

“When you are winning games and getting the fans behind you, it makes a big difference.

“I can understand why they are disgruntled with the way our home form has been.

“There is plenty of room for improvement. We want to cement our place in the top four this season, and when you look at the players, we have a good squad.

“I want there to be continued improvement this season. My job is to help the manager and put demands on the players, and help them to keep improving.”

The former Scotland cap says his first job is to help the gaffer and allow him to “focus on individual things he wants to improve” and “work with the first team lads”.

Having been over the course before, lifting the third- tier title with Cowdenbeath as manager, Cameron wants to see similar standards and results from the Diamonds.

“I know what it takes to win this division,” he added. “There are some good teams trying to get out of this league.

“We are going to try and get a settled side and want to get on a wee run. I will be putting demands on players that maybe they haven’t had before.

“I won’t do anything differently than I have so far in my management and football career.”
