St Andrew’s Hospice is inviting people to“celebrate the life of someone special” and make a difference to the lives of its patients and their families over the festive period.

The charity’s Light up a Life campaign is an eye- catching opportunity to sponsor a light on the Airdrie hospice’s Christmas tree, or a Christmas tree in your area, in memory, or in honour, of a loved one.

Monklands residents can have a handwritten, personalised card delivered to them, or sent to a friend or relative to let them know they are in their thoughts.

All donations go to supporting patients and their families across Lanarkshire, with the campaign once again being generously sponsored by the Mears Group.

Lorna McCafferty, the hospice’s trust fundraising officer, said: “The Mears Group have been sponsoring Light up a Life since 2012; their continued support is greatly appreciated.

“Coupled with the generosity of the people of Lanarkshire, this makes a great difference to the lives of our patients and their families throughout the year.”

Barry Duncan, Mears’ managing director, added: “We are proud to be involved with the hospice as it plays an important role in caring for the people of Lanarkshire.

“We are also delighted to continue supporting the hospice by sponsoring the Light up a Life campaign once again.”

People can sponsor a light up until 12 noon on Christmas Eve; any cards written that day will be posted but won’t be received until the Royal Mail resumes deliveries.

The hospice’s Light up a Life ceremony will take place in the grounds of its Henderson Street base from 7pm on December 1.

Light up a Life pin badges, priced £2, are also available and can be purchased in the hospice, from its online shop or by calling Lorna McCafferty on 01236 772087.

To sponsor a light, visit www.standrews-hospice.com, or complete a form in any hospice shop or in the reception of its base.
