Duo went on crime spree with stolen credit card

-

An Airdrie pair went on a crime spree defrauding and attempting to con employees in shops and petrol stations using a stolen credit card.

David Lowrie, 41, who was said in court to have“a horrific record”and 38-year-old Janeen Burns, of Holehills Drive, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week and pleaded guilty to a series of charges committed on August 9.

Lowrie, whose address was given as a prisoner of Addiewell prison, broke into a house in Bramble Gardens, and stole a bag containing a credit card, two tablet computers, jewellery, perfume, make-up, gloves, money and gift cards.

Prosecutor Liz Ross told the court how he then went to Rawyards post office, where he attempted to withdraw £300 and forced open a locked ATM machine.

Lowrie then went to Tesco on Faraday retail park in Coatbridge, where he obtained £29 worth of goods using the stolen credit card.

He then went to the BP garage on Coatbridge Main Street and induced an employee into accepting the card and supplying him with £29 of goods.

Burns then took the credit card to the BP garage on Carlisle Road, Airdrie, and induced an employee to hand over £28 worth of goods by fraud.

She continued to Chapel Street mini market in Airdrie, where she conned an employee to accept the card and obtained a further £27 worth of goods.

Burns then went to Tesco on Airdrie High Street, where she twice used the card and attempted to induce one employee to hand over £26 worth of goods by fraud, and another to supply her with items worth £17. Ms Ross told the court that both Lowrie and Burns had previous convictions and moved for sentence.

Defence lawyer Nicky Matteo, representing Lowrie, said:“He realises he has a horrific record, all down to his drug addiction.”

Sheriff Fergus Thomson deferred sentence and bailed both until January 6, calling for a full criminal justice background report on each of them.

He also ordered a drug testing and treatment order assessment on Lowrie.
