TITLE HUNT Gallagher wants to keep pace with promotion foes

Ai rdrie striker Calum Gallagher says it’s the Diamonds job to take advantage of any slip-up in the League One title race.

Gallagher’s goal proved to be the difference as Ian Murray’s men earned a narrow win over Peterhead in horrid conditions at the Penny Cars Stadium.

With Falkirk holding league leaders Raith to a draw, the Diamonds moved joint top of the table having lost to the Kirkcaldy outfit in their previous clash.

As they prepare to travel across North Lanarkshire to face Clyde this weekend, the 25-year-old says they have to keep pressure on their promotion rivals.

He told the Advertiser: “It was extremly important to bounce back from the Raith defeat.

“With Raith and Falkirk drawing, if we had dropped points it’s a let-off for them.

“At the same time it as a long season. Teams lose games.

“We are unlikely to win all of our remaining games but all we can do is we can make sure we take advantage when these results do go our way.

“The guys in there are all willing to go and give that extra five per cent when it matters most.

Having converted a scrappy goal from a Callum Fordyce knock down, Airdrie’s top scorer admits he has been given some stick by his teammates.

However, he says his only focus is on another three points.

He went on: “We have a bit of a running joke in the dressing room the last few weeks that my standard of goal is horrendous – but I’m absolutely chuffed with it. It might be the worst one yet!

“More importantly I’m pleased about the one. Peterhead have hit a bit of form and they are tough and organised.

“Luckily, where we are at the moment we are expected to win games.

“If you are expected to beat teams it means you are doing something right.”
