Dancers’ anniversary year starts in style
JEAN WARD
Coatbridge dancers continued their steps towards sensational success after scooping a haul of trophies at a prestigious international dance competition.
Talented young teams, soloists and duos from the NC dance school, who train at the town’s Fountain business centre studio, started the decade in style following their impressive showing at the inaugural BDO world street championships in Telford.
Three teams impressed the judges with their slick moves and choreography to stroll home with an amazing haul of titles and trophies.
The under- 10s Kraze kids led the way to take the title in the open section with their innovative style, while the under-14s ReziliENCE troupe stormed into first place and wowed the judges with their impressive choreography, with the seniors’ under-16s VengeaNCE crew following hot on their heels in third place.
And sensational soloist Niah Crawford, 12, from Glasgow, captivated the judging panel with her spectacular solo, duo and team performances to achieve a hat-trick of first places in all her events.
Nadine Creaney, the school’s proud owner, told the Advertiser: “It’s the first time that Niah has competed at that level; she was over the moon.”
Monklands’ young hip- hop stars outshone their rivals, with more than 100 teams competing from across the globe, taking home 62 trophies and nine world titles.
NC dance school’s impressive achievements to date include a trio of team trophies won at the BDO Midlands championships in March last year, as well as Kraze being crowned Scottish champions at the BDO Scottish championships in June 2018.
Nadine, 30, who is a talented dancer and choreographer in her own right, is deeply appreciative to all those who have supported her since she opened her dance school more than a decade ago.
Nadine explained: “My simple vision, initially, was to create a dance school that was friendly and welcoming, where all young people felt valued regardless of their skill or level of ability.
“From a really small beginning of only 13 students, many of whom were just my friends, we have now grown into a hugely successful school, whose students are the envy of dance schools across the length and breadth of Britain.
“My greatest pleasure each year, even beyond competition success, is to see the incredible progress each individual child makes, against their performance of the previous year.
“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of NC dance, I would like to offer my deep appreciation and thanks to all who have supported us on our journey.”
She added: “I’m delighted with all their achievements to date and I’m looking forward to what they can achieve going forward.”
To mark the momentous occasion, the Coatbridge dance school will showcase a special anniversary show in Motherwell concert hall this Sunday.
Tickets for the show cost £15 and are on sale at https://en-gb.facebook.com/ NC-Dance, from the Fountain business centre studio or at the door on the night.
