Cairn boss gutted at first defeat

Gartcairn boss Willie Kinniburgh admits his side were second best in their defeat to Whittlets.

The visitors opened the scoring as Jordan Boyd played a superb pass for Louis Kerr to run onto and the midfielder kept his cool to fire low past Ian Stewart in the Cairn goal.

It was two as a neat Vics move saw Boyd pass to Marc Dyer whose timely pass saw Michael Reilly run on and slip the ball past the advancing keeper.

Boyd then played in Reilly down the left and as he raced clear into the box he cut the ball back for Boyd to fire home from twelve yards to make it three before the break.

Ryan Donnelly netted after 77 minutes after meeting a corner at close range but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Kinniburgh, who suffered his first defeat since taking over at MTC Park, conceded they got what they deserved for a poor showing.

He planned on making wholesale changes as Cairn prepare for their clash with Arthurlie this weekend.

He told the Advertiser:“We got exactly what we deserved from the game and can’t have any complaints.

“I decided to try a couple of different things with the players. We brought in some players and move around four or five players.

“I wanted them to prove that they could play at this level and that they wanted to be at this club.

“I am learning about them all the time, and they will still be getting used to me, but still expect a bit more than we got on Saturday.

“There will be more ups and downs before the end of the season but I want to find a bit more consistency.

“It’s disappointing as well because we were at home. You always fancy youself to get something at home but we need to put that behind us now.

“Arthurlie will be a tough game and I’ll make some more changes.

“We need to try and build on the first game I had here and move forward.”

Kinniburgh was also keen to bring in his own players to add to the current squad during the transfer window.

He added:“We are speaking to a few different players but we will be more or less the same until the end of season.

“I want to give the boys that are here a chance to show their best but we will speak to a few different players to see if there is business we can do.”
