Back in Black as former Airdrie boss looks to future

New vision for women’s football

Coatbridge native Eddie Wolecki Black is looking forward to introducin­g a new era of women’s football at Motherwell.

The ex-Airdrie gaffer made his return turn to Fir Park as Head of Women’s Football tball and to once again lead the first team eam after a year at Celtic.

He hopes to use that experience e at the Diamonds along with his other her SPFL tenures to have the Steelwoman man go head-to-head with Glasgow City, ity, Celtic and Rangers in the SWPL1 this his term.

“I’ve managed a men’s teams like ke Montrose, and Edusport, so I feel like ke I could still manage men’s teams.

“For me now, it’s just about my y ability to be happy.

“Possibly that’s something that t I wasn’t able to do at Celtic as much. Now I have the opportunit­y to put in place the full women’s department at the club.

“It’s a job that gives me the chance ance to dip into my experience in the men’s game.

“It’s now my job to help build the club up.”

Wolecki Black made his return to Fir Park as Head of Women’s Football and to once again lead the first team after a year at the Hoops.

Despite Despiteasu­ccessful a successful term termatPark­head at Parkhead, the 54-year-old said he was keen to come back to Lanarkshir­e after the support he was shown during the unbeaten SWPL2 campaign in 2018.

With the Old Firm splashing the cash and champi champions Glasgow City expecting to challenge ch for a 14th consecutiv­e title, titl the gaffer is hoping to build on last seasons third- bottom finish. fin

““I I had a good relationsh­ip with the club with guys like Alan Burrows Burro and had left the club on good terms.

“In Scottish football when Celtic come calling you have to take your chance, chance and Motherwell understood that.

“I managed ma to get Celtic to third in the league le in a tough division so it wasn’ wasn’t like I did badly, it was just a personal persona decision.”

He went we on: “We will look to put the ambitions ambition of the club to the players. “As a club cl we obviously want to do better tha than last season and I’m hopeful that in inthen the next month we will have some incredible news to announce.”
