It’s two sides of the same city for Coatbridge footballer Christie Murray as she battles relegation with Liverpool.

As Jurgen Klopp’s side surge towards a historic Premier League title, the Women’s team now sit rock bottom of WSL1 after defeat to West Ham.

Reds forward Murray admits it has been a tough season for her team on Merseyside, but hopes to take inspiration from the positive mood around Anfield this term.

She told the Advertiser: “For me now I want to push on for the rest of the season. I love the city and I love playing for Liverpool so hopefully I can get some more game time.

“It’s an exciting time for the club; for the city. There is a great atmosphere about the place.

“It’s great to see the men’s team doing so well, and the women’s squad is improving as well.

“We need to start getting the results to match our performances.”

The 29-year-old is hoping to make her mark on the rest of the campaign – and reckons they can salvage their season, starting with a result over Manchester City this weekend.

She went on: “It’s been going well in Liverpool but we have a really important run of games coming up now.

“We’ve put in some good performances and we feel like we are improving but we need to get the points to climb the table again.

“Every game is so competitive at this level and we believe we can take points off of the teams that are above us.

“There is a belief here that we can go on to win every game now this season, but every team will give us a tough game.”

Murray has also been included in Shelley Kerr’s Scotland squad for the Pinatar Cup, where they will play Ukraine, Iceland and Northern Ireland.

She hopes to use the friendly fixtures to build towards European qualification.

The striker added: “I’m delighted to be back in the Scotland squad and now we’ve got a couple of games before the competitive fixtures start again.

“The aim is to reach the Euros again but we can look forward to these three games in Spain. There maybe is a bit of pressure now once you’ve been to a World Cup. It’s a privileged position to be in because of what we have achieved previously.”
