Barnyard tough test in Airdrie Darts battle

-

A much-improved Barnyard side faced their toughest task of the year in the Airdrie and District Dart League with a trip to tackle The Workmen’s C.

A 17-darter from Tam McKnight early in the match settled the nerves for the visitors and Jimmy McCreadie’s 18-dart and 21-dart victories gave them hope of a shock.

However, the power of the league leaders kicked in including an 18-darter from Derek Cunningham and a 20-dart win for Ernie Brown.

Several 180’s were also recorded for the high flyers.

The Eagle were favourites to dispose of The Clansman but once again they failed to fire to their potential with the points shared on the night.

Pat Hanlon had an 18-dart win and Davie Gemmill recorded a 21.

There is no doubt the trip home to Caldercruix would have been a happy one, taking a point from The Coatbridge outfit.

The Workmen’s A staged a great fightback at home to The Bank Social Club.

The visitors were trailing 6-4 with three pairs games remaining, but the home side refused to give and won all three of the games keeping both points in Airdrie.

The Boar’s Head also continued to get results here and there and this week they saw off The Cue Here, who put up a stern challenge.

There were maximums for both sides with Joe Queen scoring for the visitors and Jim Walker on the mark for The Boar’s Head.

Gary Stone of The Post was in action at the weekend in The Scottish Open which attracted over 700 chuckers.

Stone came up against his old nemesis Jim Williams at the quarterfinal stage.

Although Stone admits he was way below his best it was still a decent effort.

The Post were on their travels to The West End in the league and Gerry Houston gave them a fright with a 21-dart win.

In the the Calderbank chuckers soon got in the groove with Kenny Campbell being top man with a 13-darter and a 180.

Chris Flockhart had a 21 and Stuart Ferguson matched that as The West End outfit were well outgunned.

In Chapelhall The Swan and The Workmen’s B held a slender lead at the interval mainly thanks to a Scott Gibb 16-darter and a Jim McGeary 14.

They had to wait until the third pairs match until the points were secured.
