Fan blog: Defeat for an improved Rovers

-

A better performance from Rovers but the same old result as Kevin Harper’s men slumped to their third consecutive defeat.

The scoring in this one was over within six minutes of the kick-off with each team scoring with their first attack of the game.

When former Rovers striker Kane Hester put Elgin in front it seemed like we might be in for a goal fest at Cliftonhill.

But it was not to be, and the visitors were content to sit back and defend their lead.

Unlike last week at Annan, Rovers’managed to put their opponents under some pressure, especially in the second half and can count themselves unlucky not to take something from the game.

Fortunately, the defeat does not substantially alter our league position as all the teams around us also failed to pick up any points.

However, it’s worrying that we are not showing the kind of form that will pull us out of the danger zone anytime soon.

True, we have games in hand over all those teams but on current form I can’t see us taking maximum points from these fixtures all of which involve teams in the top-half of table.

The manager had made some move to strengthen the squad and that is very much to be welcomed.

We have already seen St Mirren youngster Nicholas

McAllister make himself an automatic first choice in the back four and we got glimpses of two more loanees on Saturday.

Lewis Hunter looked a bit off the pace and maybe needs some more competitive minutes to show his potential.

I thought that Cameron Breadner did well in the 20 minutes or so that he played.

We will need contributions from the whole squad to see us though this period which sees us playing three midweek games starting at Central Park.

It’s never an easy place to visit but hopefully the boys can dig in and get something from this tough fixture.
