Big-hearted tradesmen donate their services
Two big-hearted Airdrie tradesmen are responding to the Covid- 19 crisis by doing their bit to help local residents in need.
Dom McCauley and Davie Rodger, who own DD Plumbing and Heating, have offered to carry out repairs free of charge for all pensioners and for those facing hardship during the months ahead.
So far they have carried out three jobs as part of their community project, and are hoping to enlist other local businesses to get involved in the same way.
Dom told the Advertiser: “We rely on our customers and wanted to give something back by looking out for anybody who’s vulnerable or having hard times by doing plumbing, heating and gas repairs for free.
“The first job we did was for an older lady who had no heating or hot water and was sitting there freezing – she was over the moon that we were able to help and now she doesn’t have to worry about getting that done.
“We got that fixed and also helped a young family where the parents’ work has been affected. Further down the line, we don’t know what position we’ll be in and that could be any of our mums or loved ones, and we wouldn’t see them stuck.”
He added: “Davie and I came up with the idea to do what we could for the community, and the response has been brilliant; we’ve had lots of encouragement and nobody is taking advantage as it’s been people in genuine need who’ve been in touch.
“We’re trying to get more traders involved as well – we’ve suggested it to a couple of pals who are in businesses like joinery and landscaping to think about doing so as well.”
Dom posted on Facebook: “Any other companies wanting to join us in offering their services to our pensioners and families facing financial hardship due to being laid off or compulsory unpaid holidays?
“No-one should have to make a choice between eating and having basic essential repairs done; it could be anyone you care about, and we can all do our bit to help others.”
