Thug beat up partner

-

COURT REPORTER

A thug who beat up his partner at a house in Airdrie will return to court next month to discover his sentencing.

Steven Lambie, 48, assaulted the woman at a property in Glen Road, Petersburn, on November 12 last year.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard last month how Lambie repeatedly pushed her on the body and seized her by the head.

He then struck her head against furniture and punched her on the head, causing her to fall on to a bed, and then seized her by the neck.

Lambie, of Linlithgow, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

He was shouting and swearing, made offensive remarks and threats of violence and also challenged police officers to a fight.

Prosecutor Alice Carey said: “They had been in a relationship since February 2019.

“At the time of this incident he had been drinking.

“He was extremely intoxicated and flew into a rage and got out of bed.

“She backed away and he followed her.

“He pushed her twice against a wardrobe, jabbing her forehead.

“He then punched her with his closed fist on the left side of her face.

“She fell onto the bed. His hands were around her neck.

“Police were contacted. He was arrested.”

Defence lawyer Simon Gilmour told the court that Lambie had admitted the offence just before he was due to go on trial before a sheriff.

Mr Gilmour added: “There was no justification for his behaviour that evening.

“He had been drinking to excess. He should never have acted in the way he did and regrets it.”

Sheriff Fergus Thomson said: “These were clearly unacceptable events. I want you assessed for alcohol treatment.”

Sheriff Thomson deferred sentence on Lambie until April 29, calling for a full social background report, including alcohol assessment, and bail was continued.
