Helping out on the menu for kind McDonald’s staff

-

Big-hearted staff at McDonald’s in Airdrie helped make a charity’s wishes come true by collecting and delivering thousands of items of kitchen and office supplies.

Workers from the fast-food restaurant at the town’s retail park in Gartlea showed their continuing support for Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow by providing supplies from its Amazon wishlist after spotting the requests through social media.

Led by business manager Corinne Leggatt and manager Craig MacKenzie, they collected 2000 bin liners, 540 toilet rolls, 360 kitchen cloths, 500 teabags and 900 milk sticks, plus 500 plastic wallets and “an abundance” of other stationery.

They teamed up with colleagues from Wishaw, Cumbernauld, Livingston, Linwood, Edinburgh and Galashiels to organise the huge donation of supplies, which were delivered and handed over by four members of the Airdrie team.

Ronald McDonald House is a 31-bedroom free“home away from home” for families who have children in the nearby Royal Hospital for Children – and the Airdrie McDonald’s team will be helping further by repainting its fencing later this month.

Corinne said: “We wanted to do whatever we could for the Glasgow house, which is so close to our hearts, considering this year has been such a challenging one for them.

“Last year we raised over £7000 for the house through fundraising – that hasn’t been possible this year due to Covid-19, so we wanted to offer our support with this donation of much-needed supplies.”

“We hope that it will go some way to helping families in need.”
