W/D Lanarkshire league hopes
Waysiders/Drumpellier team manager Gerry Brankin would be open to a Lanarkshire division to get the rugby season underway.
With the SRU green lighting the next stage for the return of the sport, which includes contact for clubs, the countdown to the new season is well underway at Langloan.
However, with local restrictions being placed on Lanarkshire and other areas Brankin reckons it will be tough to complete a full West Region League Two fixture list.
The gaffer concedes that a temporary South and North Lanarkshire conference may be the best solution.
He said:“At this point I don’t see how we can complete a league season.
“For example in our league we would have to travel to Oban, and the SRU have already said they aren’t keen on players travelling across the country for games.
“It would make sense to play the teams close to us so we can get some form of games, even if it’s a temporary league.
“It would be something different but it means we can keep guys looking forward to and training for games.
“It’s better than no league season at all.”
Brankin is also delighted to be back in training with“modified contact”as they come back after the curtailed campaign.
He added:“Everyone has really been looking forward to getting back and now it’s not just fitness work.
“Normally, towards the end of the season you are running out of steam, but with the way it ended everyone has been desperate to get back.”
