M&CO urging locals to shop in town
An Airdrie retailer is encouraging shoppers to support the call to“love local”and make use of town centres and high streets.
M&CO, which has a branch at Graham Street, is backing the campaign and thanking shoppers for their support since stores reopened in July following lockdown.
Chief executive Andy Mcgeoch explained:“without the support from people in Airdrie, we wouldn’t be able to continue trading on the high street and appreciate every customer that has come through the doors during these very difficult times.
“Covid-19 means that many people don’t feel comfortable travelling on public transport or visiting busy city centres, which is good news for shops in town centres, and we hope to encourage shoppers who feel comfortable visiting stores to do so.”
He added:“we pride ourselves in the personalised service that customers get in store – we know that they love knowing their sales

The retailer, originally established as Mackays, has had a presence in the town for more than 50 years.
It announced 47 store closures and 380 redundancies across the
UK as part of a“financial restructuring” announcement in August, but confirmed at that time that the
Airdrie branch would be retained.
Mr Mcgeoch told the Advertiser then:“covid has been by far the biggest challenge our family business has faced in almost 60 years, and I am really pleased that we have been able to maintain a presence in over 200 communities.
“We are looking at ways of working in partnership with other local retailers to highlight the tremendous range of shopping that can be found in communities like this all over the country.
“Local economies rely to a huge degree on their town centres and we have seen too many high streets hollowed out by successive shop closures.
“More and more people are beginning to realise that if they don’t support their town centres, everyone’s quality of living really takes a hit, so we are proud to be playing a part in the drive to shop locally.”
