Housing plan for factory site
Proposals are being developed to construct 60 new houses on the site of the Tannoy factory in Coatbridge.
The masterplan for the site, shared on a dedicated project website, states that it would include“a mixture of family homes alongside smaller starter or downsizer homes”, ranging from one to three bedrooms and from flats to detached houses.
A live online consultation event took place to seek public feedback which will“help inform the preparation of detailed plans”for the land at Palacecraig Street.
The project website, at www. palacecraigplanning.com, states:“paloma Capital intend to bring forward a proposal for residential development on the land which currently occupied by the Tannoy factory.
“Should the application be successful, Paloma Capital would then market the site to housebuilders to take the proposed development forward to the next stage, presenting even more detailed plans with specific house types – this will require further applications in due course.”
The online live-chat event ran in place of a public exhibition due to coronavirus restrictions, with project team members responding to queries throughout the day.
It adds:“the design team will take into account all comments made during this consultation event as the proposals are developed further; we welcome comments on our proposals and look forward to receiving feedback.”
A proposal of application notice was first sent to North Lanarkshire Council last month, and developers now aim to submit a full application for the“high-quality development”by January.
The proposals indicate that the housing site would have one vehicle access from Palacecraig Street, and various footpath connections giving links to the nearby St Andrew’s High and St Timothy’s Primary campus, bus stops and play area.
It includes green space areas, a drainage pond, the retention of existing boundary hedges and new tree planting, plus traffic calming to create a “pedestrian-friendly” development.
