Colts claim first win of the season

-

Cumbernauld Colts gaffer James Orr reckons they finally got their just rewards for dominating games after a 3-0 win over Edinburgh Uni.

The Broadwood side claimed their first win of the new Lowland League season on Saturday after 2-1 defeats to Bo’ness and Stirling University in their opening outings.

First half strikes from Billy Mortimer and Scott Davidson had Colts in control at half-time, before skipper Stephen O’neill sealed the points in 87 minutes.

And Orr said:“we are relieved to get off the mark, but in our first two games I didn’t think the lads did anything wrong to deserve two defeats.

“We could have been a bit more composed in the last third and taken our chances when they came along.

“I honestly think we were the better team against Bo’ness, but they got a deflection and their guy scored a worldy.

“And with Stirling we started at a pace that they couldn’t live with and we just couldn’t take our chances – then we got sucker punched with a penalty.

“So when you speak to the lads I don’t think they could’ve done too much else.

“We managed to get the goals we needed and got our reward.”

Colts are 11th in the table and now head to third-place BSC Glasgow tonight, hoping to build on Saturday’s success. Orr men’s beat BSC 2-1 at home and lost 3-1 away last season, so he’s expecting an even contest under the lights at the Indodrill.

He added:“bsc are a top three side for the past few years and I hope we give them a good game and take our chances when they come to us.”
