Bags of help from generous neighbours

- JUDITH TONNER

Big-hearted neighbours from a Coatbridge housing estate showed their Christmas spirit as they collected more than 40 bags of vital supplies for Coatbridge foodbank.

Residents at Parklands Estate, off Coltswood Road, responded in droves to appeal posters placed in their playpark and around the development asking for contributions to the local good cause.

Food collection organiser Jamie Lindsay arranged the event, saying:“this year, more than ever, families are struggling and need our help”– and was overwhelmed by the generous response.

He said:“it was incredible. Everybody from the estate who donated deserves great credit, and the volunteers at the foodbank do brilliant work.”

Meanwhile, construction and infrastructure partnership Hub South West is also supporting foodbanks including the Airdrie operation by donating to the Trussell Trust.

It is making a donation to the foodbank umbrella organisation to support people across Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and

Dumfries & Galloway, and is also asking partners and suppliers to show their support through an online fundraising page which has so far collected more than £1800 for the charity.

Hub South West chief executive Michael Mcbrearty said:“christmas will be very different this year for all of us, but especially for many disadvantaged families.

“We’re donating to the Trussell Trust and appealing to all members of the Hub South West community to join us in donating muchneeded funds to help its foodbanks assist as many families and individuals as possible.”
