Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser

Split decision among members of the public

-

Advertiser readers had mixed views on the decision to recommend Wester Moffat as the site for the new Monklands Hospital as they responded to the news in their droves on our Facebook page.

Michelle Mcallister warned:“it will be hellish to get in and out unless the road network around it is much improved.”

Yvonne Quinn Paterson agreed:“as if it couldn’t get any worse to get to. It’s bad enough trying to get through traffic at Coatdyke never mind driving further into Airdrie.”

Craig Agnew opined:“so we now have a new Monklands Hospital next to Caldervale High, an already busy Towers Road, a football stadium and a new Aldi all right next to the super busy Carlisle Road leading onto the very busy Chapelhall, not to mention the new proposed housing going into the Brownsburn and Cairnhill area? All within a two-mile radius.” Jacqueline Thomson claimed:“it doesn’t matter what is said, it’ll always go where they want it to. They let the public think it’s their choice but it’s not.”

Lorna Hudghton cautiously said:“as long as they provide reliable public transport. Not everyone drives.”

But others were firmly in favour of the decision, with Mairi Beveridge posting: “The best choice. Hope it gets the OK from Jeane Freeman [health secretary].”

Stevie Hampshire commented: “Definitely the way to go. It was the best of the three options and I think it will suit the new hospital very well.”

Julie Paterson added:“this is amazing news. I am delighted.”

Diane Di posted:“this is the best news. A huge park to one side, routes in and out from different angles and, most importantly, in Monklands, not Glasgow.”

And Janice Lafferty said:“wester Moffat is the ideal location for it.”
