Hutton heads for Diamonds exit

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

David Hutton insists there has been no fall-out with Airdrie boss Ian Murray as he gets set to leave New Broomfield.

Hutton will spend the next week assessing his options as the January transfer window opens, but says he’s had the best time of his career with the Diamonds.

The 35-year-old isn’t confident of getting past current custodian Max Currie, having lost his place, and now wants to move on.

He said:“young Max Currie has come in, done really well and he’s number one now, so it’s just one of those things.

“I was a bit gutted, and they wanted me to stay and fight for my place, but I thought I wasn’t going to get it back.

“There is no fall-out, I had a good time with the gaffer and everybody at the club was fine with me, but it was just one of those things where I wasn’t going to play, so there was no point in me being there.

“It was the best time I’ve ever had in football, but that’s just the way it is.”

Hutton, who made a memorable penalty save from Scott Sinclair in a Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic last year (pictured, left), says his time with the club has turned him into a supporter but needs to get regular games.

He added:“i loved it at Airdrie, it was a good three years and probably the best time I’ve had in football.

“It’s just one of those things, I wasn’t playing and I need to get out and play – I’m 35 so I’m not getting any younger!

“I’ve got a few things planned but nothing concrete. I’m working on that just now and in the next week I’ll probably find out a bit more about it.

“As long as I’m playing I don’t really care where it is, as long as I’m enjoying my football.

“I’ve still got more to give, I’m probably at my peak just now, and I think I can go and do it elsewhere.

“I absolutely loved it here, it’s a great club and I’m actually a supporter now, so I wish them all the best.

“I was linked with Morton back in October and I was meant to be going, but I had a really good think about it and wanted to stay and try to get my place back.

“It just wasn’t to be so I’ll move on.”

Boss Ian Murray said:“david is a great goalkeeper and a great guy as well, so it’s really sad to see him go, but we won’t replace him unless something extraordinary crops up or a decent loan becomes available.”
