New jobs will support people in their homes
Cera Care in North Lanarkshire has announced 20 new jobs – including posts in Airdrie and Coatbridge – for care workers across the region working to support people living independently in their own homes.
Delighted local manager Tara Burch says “never has care at home been so important to those in our communities who need extra help to live independently, and to stay out of hospital, freeing up beds for the cases the NHS is facing during Covid-19”.
Cera was founded by British doctor and entrepreneur Ben Maruthappu and has raised more than $100m in debt and equity funding to support its expansion which included the acquisition of Mears Care Scotland last year.
Its technology monitors the health of users, allowing families and medical professionals to track any changes in their condition in real time, through an AI App.
Tara continued: “Cera is transforming the way in which care at home will be delivered at home through AI. And already it has decreased the number of required hospital admissions, enabling prevention rather than cure.”
Care at home is a specialised service which enables older people and those less able, sometimes living alone to have the services they require for an independent life in their own homes.
Its teams make regular daily visits to provide personal care, shopping, medication and companionship, and care workers have never been more in demand or more appreciated than in these tough times of lockdown.
Tara said: “We have 20 new positions for full or part time care workers to support the people we care for in North Lanarkshire.
“These roles cover Airdrie, Coatbridge, Harthill, Motherwell, Shotts, Wishaw, Bellshill and Muirhouses.
“We provide full training for those without experience and all the correct PPE for the work they do under the new government guidelines. We support the costs of all staff studying for the SVQ qualifications in care.”
New recruits are welcomed from other walks of life whether or not they have worked in the care sector before.
Tara added: “In these troubled times when so many jobs are at risk during the pandemic, we welcome those with experience working with people from the hospitality and travel industries.
“Many of our team members transferred from retail or manufacturing into a job where they find enormous job satisfaction.
“I know my team members derive a lot of satisfaction working with people, as well as being appreciated for what they do every single day.
“Some have experienced caring for a family member or a close friend or neighbour, and have learned they have natural skills in care.”
