Firmscan playpartin windfarm project

-

Construction is due to start this spring on the new wind farm southeast of Greengairs, with local businesses invited to tender to be involved in the project.

Developers Muirhall Energy are “pleased to announce we are nearing the construction phase”, and are asking firms to tender for the aspects of site work involved in building eight turbines.

Each turbine at the site, north of Easterton on Airdrie Road, will be nearly 150 metres tall – three times the height of Coatbridge tower block Jackson Court – and will be able to generate up to 4.8 megawatts of electricity.

With its usual public “meet the buyer” event unable to take place due to coronavirus restrictions, the company is asking firms to get in touch via the “register as a supplier” section of its website.

Muirhall managing director Chris Walker said: “We have always used local businesses to meet our requirements wherever possible – developing a strong local supply chain is a key element of how we work.”

Construction project manager Keith Mcdougal added: “We will be going to tender for works supporting our main contractors. If you have a local business which could contribute, we’d like to hear from you.”

The developers are looking for suppliers in fields ranging from supplying construction materials, electricals, transport and hospitality to plant, equipment and labour hire. The new windfarm is set to result in local community investment of £192,000 for each of the 25 years of its operational lifespan; while Muirhall say it will generate electricity to achieve “the equivalent of powering 32,835 homes and offsetting 55,099 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year”.
