THREE AND EASY

-

1

Wooden drawers sticking? Lubricate them by rubbing a candle along the edges. The wax will help them glide again.

2

Smelly bin? Soak a piece of white bread in vinegar. Put this at the bottom of the empty bin on a piece of kitchen towel and leave it overnight. In the morning the bin should be fresh again.

WD40 is great for lifting crayon marks from walls or furniture. Be sure to test it on a hidden area first. Spray on, leave for a few minutes, then wipe away your children’s masterworks with a clean cloth.

Aggie’s own range, which is exclusive to Poundstretcher, has eight different sprays to cover every job around the home and keep germs and bacteria at bay.

Mrs Hinch has done wonders for the profits of The Pink Stuff, a scented cleaning goo to lift resistant stains and marks. She also loves Zoflora disinfectant, which she uses all around the house, Flash Bathroom spray and Harpic Active toilet cleaner with a pine scent.

Scottish cleanfluencer Mario Mcknight prefers Tesco’s bargain bathroom spray for the smallest room in the house. Dettol, in the cotton breeze scent, is his disinfectant of choice.

String mops with fixed heads belong in the dustbin of history. Microfibre mops, with detachable cleaning pads, are better in every way. There’s no need for a nasty bucket of grimy water. Instead, spray the floor lightly before wiping. The mophead can be stripped off and chucked in the machine after each use.

Mops that use wipes, such as Mrs Hinch’s Flash Speed Mop, make the job easier but come at an environmental cost (the wipes are recyclable, through the Terracycle scheme, but there are few drop-off points in Scotland). But there’s no doubt they are quick and light to use. She even uses hers to do the tiles in her bathroom.

For bigger jobs she rates the

Vileda Spin Mop, which uses a footoperated spinning bucket to zap extra moisture from the mop head.

And while an old-school hard bristled broom is still the best thing to use outdoors, on concrete or stone steps, a silicone brush does a much better job inside the house. Some even come with a built-in squeegee, which extends the number of jobs they can do. They not only collect more dust and hair than older models, they are much easier to clean.
