Maggie’s online pet competition

-

Cancer caring centre Maggie’s Lanarkshire is running an online pet competition to help raise funds and celebrate supporters’“precious” companions.

Participants can enter by emailing in a photo of their pet and then pay the £5 entry fee via the Airdrie charity’s Just Giving webpage at www. justgiving.com/ fundraising/maggie-slanarkshire by March 29.

Winners will then be decided via a public vote running at the same site until April 8, with people being asked to pay £2 per vote to show their support for their chosen pet.

The top three entrants will receive exclusive prizes being supplied by Pets at Home at Faraday retail park in Coatbridge and by Pets N Things of South Bridge Street in Airdrie.

Organisers from the Maggie’s Lanarkshire facility, located in the grounds of Monklands Hospital, hope the new venture will“help raise vital funds while also bringing a smile to people’s faces”.

Centre clinical psychologist Lorrie Cameron said:“as honorary family members, pets bring such comfort and companionship to our lives.

“They’re especially important during these difficult times of being isolated from family and friends; they bring joy and friendship, reduce stress, increase emotional comfort and decrease loneliness and anxiety, so they’re the perfect friend.”

Maggie’s Lanarkshire provides a wide range of practical, financial and emotional support for people with cancer and their loved ones, and relies on voluntary donations to fund its work – including having moved many of its support services online during the past year.
