Top musician shares advice with students
Guitarist and New College Lanarkshire graduate Adam Warrington shared his advice on making it in the music industry with current students of his old educational stomping ground.
Adam has enjoyed incredible success since graduating with an HND in music in 2016 playing guitar with hip hop/pop punk act Yungblud.
In December, Yungblud went straight to number one in the UK’S Official Album Chart with their album Weird!
Hosted by lecturer Scott Cowie, the online session involved Adam chatting with students from HNC and HND levels and sharing insights into achieving goals in the industry.
He reflected fondly on his time at New College Lanarkshire, as well as answering questions on his songwriting processes, his decision to move to London, and his advice on forming a band.
The guest lecture took place as part of the college’s Music’s Live Takeover event, which featured Q&AS, live performances and interviews with current students and recent graduates.
The live stream on Instagram also allowed prospective students who are interested in a career in the music industry to find out more about options at the college.
Adam is the second student to have progressed from a music course at New College Lanarkshire to achieve a number one album.
His predecessor, and best friend, Lewis Capaldi was not only in the same class, but they were in same band whilst students.
Scott Cowie said: “It was fantastic having Adam back to give such an indepth insight into how he has gone on to achieve such great things.
“Our students got so much out of it as many are huge fans of Yungblud and Adam.
“It’s also great of him to say such nice things about the course.”
