Orr: Lowland right to declare champs

-

Cumbernauld Colts boss James Orr says it wouldhave been a catastrophe if the Lowland League hadn’t declared a champion.

Kelty Hearts were declared champions on a points per game method on Monday night and put forward for the play-off againstthe Highland League winners.

Orr supports the decision and believes it’s imperative to avoid the fiasco last season when brechin City avoided a relegation play-off from league two.

He said: “it would’ve beena catastrophe if we didn’t put forward a team for the play-off.

“It’s taken out our hands to finish the season due to the pandemic, which is fine, butit’s not taken out our hands to decide who wins the league.

“If Brechin finish bottom ofleague Twothen they deserve to play whoever finishes top of our leagueand take their chances.

“It’s the same if it’s albion Rovers or anybody else. I justthink it’s fair.

“I think the points per gameis fair over the two years because Kelty has come outon top.”

Nine clubs wrote to support the PPG proposal which constituted a majority of clubs, although three clubs intimated a preference fora null and void verdict.

Colts finished 14th in the league via PPG after an inconsistent season on 0.79 points across 14 games.

Orr added: “we’ve not been near the top this season whereas in the last five years, we’ ve always been in the top six.

“Our worst place was sixth but we didn’t start the league well so we never never in danger of going down .”
