Shine a light on special loved ones with hospice

- IAN BUNTING

The festive season is creeping ever nearer and while this is a time of joy, it’s also a time for reflection.

St Andrew’s Hospice’s Light Up a Life campaign is an opportunity to dedicate a light on a Christmas tree throughout Lanarkshire to the memory, or in honour of, a loved one.

Monklands residents can also choose to receive an accompanying card for them to send on to their friends or relatives to let them know that they are in their thoughts.

All donations will go towards caring for and supporting hospice patients and their loved ones.

The hospice’s annual Light Up a Life service will take place in the grounds of its Airdrie base on November 28 at 7pm; it will also be live streamed online.

Lorna Mccafferty, trusts, legacy and individual giving manager at the hospice, told the Advertiser: “We are delighted that Light Up a Life is being supported by Mears and Suicide Prevention North Lanarkshire again this year.

“We would also like to thank North Lanarkshire Council and South

Lanarkshire Council for allowing the Christmas trees in Lanarkshire to be used for our campaign.”

Councillor Paul Kelly, depute leader of North Lanarkshire Council, added: “As a council, we are delighted to support the Light Up a Life appeal through our Suicide Prevention NL campaign.

“St Andrew’s Hospice provides vital and much needed support for people in our communities at the most difficult of times.

“The work carried out by everyone involved with the hospice is an inspiration to all and we are so grateful to have them here in North Lanarkshire.”

Barry Duncan, Mears’ managing director, said: “Mears are proud to be involved with St Andrew’s Hospice as it plays an important role in caring for the people of Lanarkshire.

“We are also delighted to continue supporting the hospice by sponsoring the Light Up a Life campaign again.”
