Airdrie Harriers put best foot forward for hospice in Kiltwalk
Airdrie Harriers have shown their charitable side by raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice at the 2022 Kiltwalk.
Members of the track and field club took part in the event alongside several others raising cash for vital causes.
And the Harriers raised an outstanding £3627 as participants took part for a variety of reasons close to heart.
Kiltwalkers as a whole have raised a whopping £2 million alongside a 50 per cent top up from Sir Tom Hunter, meaning a grand total of £3 million is going to be split across 685 Scottish charities.
St. Andrew’s Hospice is a specialist hospice providing palliative care in Lanarkshire and need to raise £88,000 each week to provide this.
Club volunteer Kerr More said: “My daughter Taylor More took part in the Kiltwalk with her friends from Airdrie Harriers to raise money for a charity close to her and her families hearts.
“Her grandad spent his last days in the Hospice and the care he received was much appreciated.
“So this is our way of showing our appreciation for all the hard work that the people of St Andrew’s Hospice provide.”
Chairman Alan Burns says it’s important for Harriers to be active members in their community.
He added: “I was approached by St Andrew’s Hospice when I signed up to do the Kiltwalk, asking if Airdrie Harriers could raise money for them.
“I thought this was a great idea as St Andrew’s Hospice is in the local community and the work they do touch all of our hearts.
“Everyone has a story about St Andrew’s Hospice they like to share. When I approached the club we had volunteers instantly.
“We set a target of £1000 but we smashed that and I have been overwhelmed by the support from everybody. Airdrie Harriers are truly a community asset.”
