Help fund hospice’s work by backing Future Care Appeal
St Andrew’s Hospice is looking for help from the people of Monklands to fund its “compassionate, expert care for hundreds of people living with a life-limiting illness” in the area.
Over the last couple of years, the hospice’s events, retail and community fundraising income has been limited due to Covid restrictions.
This is why the Airdrie charity launched its Future Care Appeal.
People can help through donations, which can support the hospice’s care in the following ways:
■ £28.65 can pay for three nutritious ‘Hearty Meals’ a week for one patient.
■ £69.60 would pay for two hours of physiotherapy to help a patient manage their mobility.
■ £143.92 can pay for eight bereavement counselling sessions, supporting a family who has recently lost a loved one.
■ £643.69 would help to fund 24 hours of care for one of its patients within the hospice’s inpatient unit.
A former patient known only as Irene benefited from the hospice’s inpatient and outpatient services, saying: “I first met St Andrew’s Hospice in May 2019.
“I’d had my diagnosis of leukaemia several years before, but I was starting to need more help and my Macmillan nurse referred me to the hospice.
“I went to access their wellbeing service and joined a group where I met and befriended others like me, people who knew how I was feeling. The atmosphere in the hospice was so warm and friendly.
“I always say it’s like a ‘hug in a mug’; it’s such a positive place and they can never do enough for you. I managed to get back to the hospice a few times last autumn when things began to relax.
“It’s become part of our lives and St Andrew’s Hospice are like my extended family now.”
