Peak performers invited to join Ben Nevis climb

St Andrew’s Hospice is urging people to hit peak performance to support its care of the people of Monklands.

The Airdrie charity is looking for intrepid climbers to join them in tackling Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, next month.

Participants will scale the 4413-foot tall beauty spot with local guides and once they have completed the climb, they can celebrate their achievement with dinner and bed and breakfast at a hotel.

Sean Kennedy, from Airdrie, told the Advertiser why he’ll be taking part in the challenge this year, saying:“two years ago, one of my best friends, Chris, passed away and we did a charity climb up Ben Nevis for his family.

“As he passed away in the hospice two years ago in August, we wanted to do it this time to raise some money for the hospice, who took great care of Chris.

“We are actually doing the West Highland Way first then meeting up with the hospice team to take on the Ben and raise money for a place that means a lot to us all.”

If, like Sean, you fancy setting yourself a challenge this year, there is still time to register for the August 20 event.

Participants are supported by Mountain Rescue guides, as well as having the hospice’s own team of experienced climbers and a group of fully qualified first aiders on hand.

Hospice fundraiser Bruce Mackenzie added:“our annual Ben Nevis Challenge really is a memorable, fun weekend, and there is a fantastic sense of camaraderie between the participants.”
