Drumpellie­r Cricket Club remain fourth in Western District First Division after returning from Marchmount Park in Irvine with a 35-run victory.

In a rain delayed game, play was reduced to 29 overs a side and when Drumpellie­r won the toss and decided to bat, they made a solid start to proceeding­s.

Gordon Shaw and Jordan Pryde put on 61 for the first wicket when G Shaw was caught by LJ Lubbe off the bowling of M Alam for 23.

Then Pryde and Nicholas Austin put on a prolific partnershi­p of 101 before Pryde went for 95 when he was bowled by D Owens. He was soon followed back to the pavilion by Austin when he was caught by Owens off the bowling of M Ali for 24, but W Leslie and S Jayathilak­e kept the score going and put Drum onto 190-3 in 29 overs.

Irvine had to score 191 at six runs an over and they were dented when R Rogers was caught by J Allison off the bowling of S Jayathilak­e, and he was soon followed 15 runs later by S Lynn, who was run out by N Allison to leave Irvine 20-2.

LJ Lubbe and SJ Avontuer swiftly made progress before SJ Avontuer was stumped by N Allison off the bowling of C Keltie, with Irvine now 71-2.

But Lubbe started to throw the bat and the Drumpellie­r bowling was taking a pummeling before he was caught by S Allison off the bowling of W Leslie for 77.

The score was at 148-6 but M Alam and N Safi could not reach the target with Irvine getting to 165-6.

Drumpellie­r, who ghave seven wins from 11 games this term, now entertain sixth place Renfrew on Saturday at Langloan Gardens from noon.
