Mu­sic acts ready for Wes­ti­val 2014

FES­TI­VALGO­ERS will not need to go far this week­end to catch a glimpse of some of the best mu­si­cal tal­ent in the area.

The West End Cen­tre in Alder­shot is again host­ing the Summer Wes­ti­val, cel­e­brat­ing live mu­sic.

With real grass through­out the in­door venue, there will be a beer tent and art and craft ac­tiv­i­ties.

Al­most 100 school­child­ren got their summer hol­i­days off to a creative and ex­cit­ing start on Mon­day by help­ing the Westy dec­o­rate its gallery, in prepa­ra­tion for this week­end’s event.

Work­ing with pro­fes­sional artists Cal­lum Buck­land and Kev Mun­day, a free work­shop in­vited chil­dren to draw on the gallery walls as well as make pa­per pom poms and ‘up­cy­cle’ chairs with colour­ful spray paints, that will adorn the cen­tre.

Jenni Up­still, arts devel­op­ment of­fi­cer at the Westy, said: “It was fan­tas­tic to see so many chil­dren hav­ing fun and cre­at­ing such amaz­ing art­work. We’re tempted to leave them up af­ter the week­end. The Summer Wes­ti­val is al­ways one of the high­lights of our year, a real mu­sic fes­ti­val that the weather can­not spoil, and this new art will make it even bet­ter.”

Run­ning from to­mor­row (Fri­day) un­til Sun­day, mu­si­cians will per­form ev­ery night from 6.45pm un­til mid­night, with a fam­ily fun day tak­ing place, from 1.45pm un­til 6pm, on Satur­day.

The renowned Throw A Wob­bler pottery taster ses­sions and T-shirt print­ing work­shops will among the ac­tiv­i­ties on of­fer for kids and chil­dren un­der 12 are ad­mit­ted free.

Kick­ing off the fes­ti­val are Alder­shot’s very own TwoThir­tyTwo; folk duo Ni­zlopi, from Leamington Spa; and Brack­nell four-piece The In­flu­ence, with their gloriously dirty pop mu­sic.

On Satur­day, main stage hosts are seven-piece par­tyreg­gae col­lec­tive Shanty, from north-west Lon­don.

Other acts in­clude Farn­bor­ough’s Freeze The At­lantic, Origami Heart and Guild­ford’s Red Kites along with Sur­rey quin­tet, Our Lost In­fantry.

Week­end tick­ets cost £42, with Fri­day and Satur­day evenings cost­ing £12, and Sun­day, £8.50. Satur­day af­ter­noon fam­ily fun tick­ets cost £8.50 for adults. All tick­ets are avail­able from the box of­fice on 01252 330040.
