Library Friends recognised for efforts
THE Friends of Farnham Library have received official recognition for their volunteering efforts.
The group was joined on one of its regular free coffee mornings last Saturday by Rose Wilson, Surrey County Council’s library operations manager, who presented them with a certificate in recognition of their ‘outstanding support’ for the West Street community facility.
She was joined by the Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Jeremy Ricketts, as well as county councillor Pat Frost.
Over the last 18 months the friends have raised £1,500 from the sale of second-hand children’s books to go towards events and equipment that are designed to help children engage with reading, and have also staged nine children’s educational entertainments during the school holidays, such as A Child’s Victorian Christmas, The Story of Chocolate at Easter and Viking School.
More than 100 children were also attending the library for a Punch and Judy show, presented by the Friends to promote the children’s summer reading scheme.
“Everyone enjoyed a great party atmosphere,” said Claire East, chairman of the volunteer group.
“We have an exciting calendar of events for the future and look forward to seeing many of our old friends and some new ones too.”
