Sports day was worth the wait

-

THE children, teachers and parents of Ash Grange Primary School rallied round to lay on a storming success of a rescheduled sports day, on Friday, July 11.

The event had originally been organised for the preceding week but was cancelled at short notice due to poor weather.

On an, ultimately, sunny afternoon the pupils took part in races for all ages, and were also given a taster of other athletic disciplines, such as javelin throwing, skipping, hoops, bean bag and sack races. Not content with cheering children on, parents took to the turf to take part in their own races.

A spokesman for the school, in Ash Church Road, said: “The children were all such good sports and enjoyed cheering each other on.”

The pupils were divided into four teams for the various events, with the Green team emerging triumphant, followed by Yellow, in second place.
