Primary pupil tests negative for Covid-19

-

A PRIMARY school is opening as usual after a coronavirus scare.

Owlsmoor Primary School in Sandhurst previously informed parents that a pupil had a suspected case of Covid19, however the results have come back as negative.

A post on the Cambridge Road school’s website on Sunday said: “The child who was showing symptoms of coronavirus has had a negative result and has been released from hospital, therefore, school is open as usual tomorrow.”

In the letter sent out by head teacher Liz Cole on Wednesday, March 11 parents were reassured that the school had adequate COVID-19 ‘contingency planning’ in place.

The letter described the symptoms that parents should look out for, then set out the day-to-day safe practices that children and teachers at school were using, including regular handwashing.

Meanwhile the 44th annual Farnham Beerex, due to be held at Farnham Maltings from April 23-25, has now been put back until August due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Event organisers said they decided to postpone the popular beer festival after “much debate and with great regret”.

Farnham Beerex chairman, Keith Harris, said: “Our primary concern and responsibility is the welfare of our visitors, volunteers and all others associated with this great annual event. We know that many will be as disappointed, as we are, but trust that our decision will be understood by all.”

Organisers said they expect current tickets to be valid for the same corresponding session in August. For more details visit www.farnhambeerex.org. uk.

Yateley Choral Society’s Spring Concert, planned to be held in St Swithun’s Church on March 28, has also been affected.

The society was hoping to be joined by soloists Bernadette Johns and Alex Bower, together with organist Nicholas Freestone and cellist Akito Goto, to perform the Duruflé Requiem and works by Vaughan Williams, John Rutter Fauré and Saint Saëns.

But a spokeswoman said: “After serious consideration, we have made the sad decision to cancel/postpone the March concert in the light of the situation regarding the Covid-19 virus. We hope to revisit this programme in the future.”
