THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG major streaming services, DVD and Blu-ray DIRECTOR Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth) brings his distinctive style to this adaptation of Peter Carey’s Booker Prize winning novel, a bold, visceral take on the Ned Kelly story starring George MacKay, Nicholas Hoult, Essie Davis, Charlie Hunnam and Russell Crowe. A folk hero to some while a criminal to others, Ned Kelly holds a unique place in Australia’s history and Kurzel’s film looks at his life from his youth to his death, as he’s nurtured by Russell Crowe’s bushranger and then plots a campaign of anarchy and rebellion against the authorities after his mother is unjustly arrested. Powerful and sometimes explosive storytelling but with a tender heart. ■ CAUGHT IN THE SYSTEM STATELESS Netflix FAMILY LIFE Advertising GRITTY six-part drama about a woman trying to break free of the influence of a cult.
