15 NEWS & MAIL WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 2020 Nine-year-old raises £2,800 A BRAVE and selfless nine-year-old, who is set for further heart surgery, has raised more than £2,800 for the British Heart Foundation and the Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity. She raised the money after losing her locks alongside her mother to thank those who have cared for her over the years. Jennifer Jarrett, who was just six months old when she had her first surgery after being born with pulmonary and aortic stenosis, and mum Robyn shaved off their hair at Talavera Junior School, in Aldershot, Hampshire, in front of Jennifer’s school friends. Jennifer said: “I decided that I wanted to shave my hair to say thank you to all the hospital staff who have worked so bravely during the pandemic to keep us all safe. “I’m very proud that I’ve raised so much money and I would like to say thank you to all the people who donated and supported me. I like my new hairdo too. It’s very comfy.” The pair have also donated their hair to The Little Princess Trust, a JENNIFER AND MUM ROBYN SHAVED HEADS AT SCHOOL EVENT TO SUPPORT HEALTH CHARITIES charity that provides wigs for children battling cancer. Robyn, who works for Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I could not be more proud of Jen – she is such a selfless and brave young lady. Every time she smashes one fundraising target, she sets herself another. “It started as £500, then £1,000, then £2,000 – now it’s 500 percent of her original goal. The atmosphere was amazing – the Year Four children sat socially distanced in their bubbles to cheer her on. They had also made her some lovely banners and posters to encourage her.” The double head shave took place on Thursday July 16 and was streamed live on Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity’s Facebook page.
