The Lion Brewery has played an even more important role in the community during the Covid-19 lockdown, being a hub for elderly locals to visit, who did not have any friends or family nearby. Mr Armitage would make sure they were well and had food at home – he would often be the only person they spoke to that day. Mike Armitage took over The Lion Brewery 40 years ago and wanted to make it a pub for local residents. He has seen a lot of changes over the years but the venue Mr Armitage added: “I just wanted to help in any way I could when lockdown hit.
