According to Network Rail, the train missed the vehicle “by seconds” as the car crossed over the track and hit the barriers near Farnham Railway Station last Wednesday, damaging them so they remained stuck down. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 10am, with Waverley Lane blocked in both directions after the dramatic incident. The driver escaped with minor injuries and shock, Surrey Police said. There was minor damage to the vehicle. A spokesman for Network Rail said: “At about 10.15am, a driver went through the barriers at a level crossing close to Farnham Railway Station in Surrey and fortunately missed a passing train by seconds. “The driver damaged the barriers and there were minor delays to SWR services while we repaired them. Information has been passed to the British Transport Police (BTP) to investigate. “This could easily have ended in tragedy and we urge drivers and pedestrians to pay attention to warning lights and barriers.” BTP attended the scene shortly after 12.15pm to assist after Surrey Police had left. The barriers are now repaired and the roads have reopened, the spokesman said. Farnham level crossing and station GOOGLE Aldershot, let’s support our locals like never before.
