50 years’ service makes Ted king of the castle

-

A FARNHAM Castle employee has celebrated an incredible 50 years of work at the historic venue.

Ted Milam, facilities and grounds manager, began working at the venue in 1970 as a 16-year-old apprentice. He has since worked his way up to manage a full team of staff who maintain the historic Grade I and Grade II-listed site.

On Friday October 23, Mr Milam was asked to plant one of his favourite trees in the Farnham Castle grounds, alongside a plaque to recognise his long service.

Reflecting on his 50 years at the castle, he said: “When I started work here back in October 1970, little did I know I would still be here 50 years later; but the castle is a very special place and has an effect on everyone entering the buildings and grounds.

“No two days are ever the same and there are always new challenges and opportunities for me and the team, as we strive to ensure that the castle looks magnificent inside and out all year round.”

A spokesman for Farnham Castle added: “Ted has constantly impressed with his knowledge and experience. When it comes to Farnham Castle, he is definitely the man to rely on.

“It is extremely rare to have an employee give so much time, dedication and loyalty throughout their career, and we, here at Farnham Castle, have been incredibly lucky to have Ted.

“We can’t thank him enough for his commitment, calm enthusiasm and good humour. We look forward to seeing Ted continue to pass on his knowledge and expertise for many years to come.

“On behalf of the entire team at Farnham Castle, we want to congratulate Ted on his incredible achievement and thank him for his dedication to this unique landmark.”
