Choir to return for harvest chorus
A MEN’s choir in Rushmoor has announced it will perform a concert this month for the first time since Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were lifted.
The Rushmoor Male Voice Choir will perform as part of the Harvest Celebrations taking place at High Cross Church, in Camberley, on Saturday September 25 at 4pm.
During lockdown, the choir rehearsed and performed online, releasing recordings of its singing on YouTube.
Peter Viveash, chairman of the choir, said “For 18 months we have only been able to sing together virtually so the guys have been absolutely delighted to be able to get back together in the rehearsal room, even with certain safety measures in place, and are really looking forward to performing in front of an audience again.
“We are very grateful to High Cross for this opportunity.”
The High Cross Harvest Celebration is free to enter for anyone with no tickets required.
The choir is also looking for new members. No audition is needed, and those interested do not need to be able to read music.
The Rushmoor Male Voice Choir is a group of around 50 men based in the Hampshire and Surrey area who love to sing. It aims to entertain audiences, raise money for charity and to have fun while doing it.
Founded in 1960 by Geoffrey Waller specifically to sing at the Aldershot Music Festival, approaches to local church choirs brought volunteers from many backgrounds, leading to the nickname Odd Fellows being coined – a name the choir is still associated with today.
In its concerts, it tries to cater for all tastes with a repertoire ranging from classical to modern, from anthems and spirituals to show tunes and popular songs.
