Woman taken to hospital after van explosion
A WOMAN was taken to hospital suffering burns after a van exploded in Aldershot on Wednesday morning (September 22).
Residents on social media reported a loud bang from the Coppice Square or White Road area of North Town.
Emergency services were called to the scene at White Road around 7.50am following the explosion.
Rushmoor firefighters controlled the fire and reported that one female had suffered injuries.
A spokesperson from South Central Ambulance Service added: “Ambulance crew attended the scene and one patient, suffering from burns, was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Frimley Park Hospital.
“We would like to thank everyone who came to the aid of the person prior to our arrival.”
On Facebook one resident said:
“Lots of people came out to help which I can’t thank enough.
“She is now on the way to hospital for treatment for the burns etc and police are investigating what actually happened. If anyone is walking through white road be very careful of all the glass.
“Fire engine have made sure no further explosions happen. The injured person was my next door neighbour and has burns to her head, arms and chest I believe from what I saw. Well done again to those who also helped with towels and water.”
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that the incident was being treated as a “industrial accident”.
Rushmoor Borough Councillor Keith Dibble thanked residents for helping the person injured and the emergency services who responded so quickly.
He said: “It was an awful incident and our thoughts are with the family and people affected. It was a very serious incident that could have been much worse if had been much later with more people around.”
The van was removed by a breakdown truck at around 11am, nearly three hours after the initial explosion.
