Fishery nets £43k during fun weekend for hospice

-

A FISHERY has raised more than £43,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell hospice over its annual summer fundraising weekend.

Frimley Pits Fishery raised £43,408 for the Farnham-based charity on the weekend of September 3 to 5.

Many anglers and their families attending the event camped at the site over the weekend, fishing for common and mirror carp in the day and socialising in the evenings. A barbecue, auction and raffle were held on the Saturday with all proceeds going to the hospice.

Samantha West, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell, said: “We would like to thank everyone at Frimley Pits Fishery who helped to raise this fantastic amount of money.

“£43,408 could pay for one of our In-Patient Unit (IPU) Health Care Assistants for over a year.

“Our IPU Health Care Assistants each care for up to five patients as well as offering emotional support to their families and carers.”

The fundraising event was run by Mark and Lorraine Fisher and the Frimley Pits Fishery charity committee. The fishery has supported Phyllis Tuckwell for several years and, in 2015, held its first social fishing weekend, inspiring the couple to make it an annual event.

The money raised will go towards funding the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for patients and their families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Mark and Lorraine Fisher said: “We are very pleased to be able to support such an important local charity. We would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event and all those who came along to take part. We would also like to thank all the companies who generously donated items for the raffle and auction. It’s only with the support of all of these people that we were able to raise this much money for hospice care.”
