Woman, 80, deters attack

-

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman’s arm was grabbed in an attempted robbery.

The victim was approached by two women who pretended to be from a charity for the deaf.

These women reportedly grabbed the victim’s arm and tried to take her watch. The incident took place outside the Post Office in West Street, Farnham, at around 11.50am on Friday April 15.

Police report the victim was able to deter her attackers after shouting and drawing the attention from passers-by. The two women left the scene without the watch. The suspects are described as white, around 25, with dark brown hair in ponytails and wearing T-shirts.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the attempted robbery, driven past near the time with dash cam footage, or saw or heard anything suspicious, to contact us and assist with our investigation.”

TUESDAY last week saw anxious parents receive letters or emails to confirm whether their child has been given a place at their chosen primary school. The confirmations on primary school national offer day contained instructions and a deadline for accepting or declining a school place. Parents and guardians have to respond by the deadline or the offer can be withdrawn and the place given to another child. Parents can accept an alternative offer if an application has been unsuccessful. They can also put their child on a waiting list of their preferred schools or make an appeal. The admissions authority for the school must allow at least 20 school days to appeal from when they send a decision letter. Yet places can be competitive and Government guidelines state priority is likely to be given to some children. Factors include living close to the school; having a sibling at the school already; faith (if selective on these grounds); attending a ‘feeder school’; being eligible for pupil premium; or having a parent work at the school for two or more years.
