Hospice needs gutsy support

WING WALKERS REQUIRED TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR FARNHAM’S PHYLLIS TUCKWELL

-

A HOSPICE in Farnham is asking thrill-seekers in the community to consider taking part in its Wing Walk challenge.

The event in support of Phyllis Tuckwell will see daredevils take a ride on the wings of a biplane and prepare to soar through the sky at speeds of up to 130mph.

The challenge will be held on Thursday June 30 at Rendcomb Airfield in Gloucestershire, and all the money raised will help fund end of life care.

Jenny Newman, one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s community fundraisers who is taking on the challenge, said: “My friend did it last year and had such an amazing time that I decided I wanted to do it too. Now that I’m lucky enough to work for Phyllis Tuckwell, I am even more inspired to take on such a challenge that is way out of my comfort zone, and raise as much money as I can.”

Those taking part will experience fly pasts, steep dives and exhilarating moments in the air.

Phyllis Tuckwell provides support for patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

As well as medical and nursing care, it also provides therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support.

Last year’s Wing Walk event raised £12,000 – enough to pay for more than three months’ care from one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s in-patient unit nurses who look after up to five patients each, as well as providing emotional support to their families too.

Registration for the Wing Walk is £50, with a £900 minimum sponsorship.
