Farnham youngsters compete for end of season glory
A SPECTACULAR final weekend of the season for Farnham did not disappoint, with several of their teams competing in an actionpacked few days.
On Friday 400 guests assembled for the Sportsmans Lunch – the club’s premier social event and fundraiser, which was attended by exEngland international Mike Tindall.
The following day the first team travelled to Cobham for their final game of the season.
In the first half Farnham demonstrated they were up to London 1 level by scoring their first try after three minutes and their second five minutes later.
Cobham got back in the game with a penalty and try, but a sharp reposte from Farnham saw them lead 26-10 at the break.
However they failed to score in the second half as Cobham came back, and in the dying seconds of the game the hosts kicked a drop-goal to steal a thrilling victory.
On Sunday the club’s junior sides travelled to compete in the finals of the Surrey RFU’s Waterfall Cup competition. The U13s had three teams competing, as the Farnham Blacks were runners-up with a narrow 4-3 loss to Barnes A.
The Farnham Whites won the Waterfall Trophy with a 9-1 win over Old Rutlishians A, while the Farnham Maples defeated Reeds B 7-6 to secure the Waterfall Plate.
The girls U15s competed in their final at Cobham against a combined Cobham/Dorking team.
Cobham/Dorking scored twice early before Farnham got two back before half-time.
Farnham then stepped up the pace in the second half, they were more aggressive and scored 31 unanswered points to ultimately cruise to a 45-19 victory.
