Boss admits Shots were ‘frustrating’

-

BOSS Mark Molesley admitted it was “frustrating to watch at times” as Aldershot Town came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Maidenhead United on Monday.

Coming quick on the heels of the Shots’ 3-1 home win over Notts County on Saturday, Molesley’s men were behind after 26 minutes through Dan Sparkes’ 25-yard freekick.

However, two minutes later the scores were levelled after Sinclair Armstrong blocked Daniel Gyollai’s attempted clearance and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

The home side had the advantage at half-time after Emile Acquah headed home from a corner in the 34th minute, but Harrison Panayiotou scored with just more than 10 minutes remaining to ensure Aldershot completed the Bank Holiday weekend unbeaten.

“It was always going to be a tough challenge coming here with such a tight turnaround,” Molesley said.

“They have good home form and the pitch made for a tricky encounter. It was frustrating to watch at times but what I would say is again the character has come through.

“We were 2-1 down at half-time – a lovely free-kick from them, you have to give credit where it’s due. And then it was disappointing to concede from a corner. We pride ourselves on being better in those situations, but we went in at 2-1 and I thought we attacked it really well. We had a lot of chances and were on the front foot.

“It was always going to be a tough ask with the turnaround time, energy-wise, but we kept going and we got our equaliser and I’m really pleased for Harrison Panayiotou. I know how important it was for him to get that goal after his return.”

Aldershot are away to FC Halifax Town on Saturday.
