Caring nurse proud of career
CARE home Signature at Fleet showcased the duties its nurses perform, and the difference they make to its residents, as part of International Nurses Day.
One nurse at the care home in Church Road revealed the opportunities, challenges and the rewards of working as a nurse in the care home sector.
Edyta Cyrta’s journey as a nurse has been entwined with Signature Senior Lifestyle for nearly a decade. Beginning her career at Signature at Winchester as a newly-qualified nurse from Southampton University, over the course of 10 years she has progressed within a range of disciplines, including six years developing expertise in dementia care, and a further three years as an assisted living co-ordinator.
As a result of her continued dedication and commitment to the care of others, earlier this year Edyta was offered a promotion to deputy manager.
Her background in nursing has helped her cultivate a flourishing care home community, and she continues to go above and beyond for the needs of others.
When asked what working as a nurse means to her and how a ‘nurse’s voice leads,’ Edyta said: “I have been with Signature Senior Lifestyle for nearly 10 years now. Someone can ask: what is career progression for a nurse in a care home? Well, my own story is a great example.
“Working in a care home with vulnerable groups, I find that the opportunity to build closer relationships with residents and their families is bigger than working in a hospital, for example.
“I am very proud to be a nurse and love working as a clinical lead at Signature at Fleet.
“In my role, I get great satisfaction and fulfilment in knowing our team is supported and that we are able to help residents live and lead their best lives.”
Speaking about the challenges of nursing, Edyta added: “Nurses must turn to preventative care.
“If they do get sick, it’s only common sense that they stay at home and get bed rest.
“Nurses are human too. They must take care of themselves so they can return to the job they love – taking care of others.”
