Sun shines for return of Surrey Heath Show
THOUSANDS of people headed to Frimley Lodge Park to attend the Surrey Heath Show on Saturday May 14 for a fun, family day out in the sunshine.
Radio Frimley Park hosted entertainment in the Show’s arena, and a number of local groups including Generation Gymnastics, The Secret Stage School, Rock Choir Camberley, Camberley Judo Club and Sandhurst and District Corps of Drums performed.
For the first time in the Show’s history, the event incorporated a boating spectacle along the adjacent Basingstoke Canal, co-ordinated by the Basingstoke Canal Society as part of the waterway’s delayed 30th anniversary celebrations.
Organised by Next Chapter Animal Rescue, the fancy dress dog parade was a popular part of the day. It saw dogs dressed in a wide variety of costumes including superheroes, film characters and other animals.
The classic car show, organised by Bob Potter, was a huge success, and the new Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr Helen Whitcroft attended. She awarded Paul Brazier’s pristine Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe the Mayor’s Choice Award. Mr Brazier very kindly donated his £50 prize winnings to the mayor’s chosen charities.
Children’s entertainment included fairground rides, the miniature railway and excellent performances from Professor Dill’s Punch & Judy Show. The Show’s mascot, Spike the Hedgehog, spent much of the day posing for photos but did manage to take part in a march with the Sandhurst and District Corps of Drums.
There was also a range of food and drink on offer as well as lots of stalls from local businesses, community groups and charities for customers to visit.
Each year the Surrey Heath Show distributes monies raised to a number of local charities and community groups which deliver services in the borough. Applications will open in
June and for more information about how to apply, visit the website surreyheathshow.org. The Show was sponsored by Active Print Services, Camberley Manor Care Home, Specsavers Camberley, Sytner Sunningdale BMW, Slimming World and Shine Again Ovens.
